Nothing quite beats the cool, refreshing hit of a glass of crisp, fresh water from a water dispenser or cooler. But to ensure you get that consistent freshness, you need to keep your water dispenser clean and free from any bacterial build-up – inside and out.

Daily clean to deep clean

We all know that drinking water is good for you. So it should come as no surprise that we all need to drink more of it, more regularly throughout the day, keeping us hydrated and feeling our best at home, work, or school. But keeping your water dispenser clean is key to making sure you’re getting all the benefits, whether you’re drinking from a bottled water cooler or a mains-fed water cooler.

From simple, daily cleaning of the outside of your cooler to the deep-cleaning and sanitisation inside it – what can you do to keep your water dispenser clean and what should you leave to the experts? Here are a few of our tips to help you keep on top of it all so your cooler stays cleaner for longer and everyone using it stays healthy.

Daily water dispenser clean

No one likes to see a dirty water cooler, so keeping your cooler free from visible dirt build-up is something you can do on a daily basis. This can be especially important if your cooler is in the workplace or public areas where it’s used by a lot of staff and visitors.

All it takes is a wipe over the main unit and the cup dispenser with food-safe sanitising wipes. Extra care – and a new wipe – should be used for the taps. This is a high-touch area, so an extra clean can eradicate the visible – and not so visible – dirt and germs. Don’t forget to empty the drip tray of stale, dirty water and wipe that over too, or place it in the dishwasher for a thorough clean.

Monthly water dispenser clean

Alongside your daily routine, it can be good for your cooler if you give it a bit more of a clean up once a month. This is ideal for any freestanding water coolers, mains-fed water coolers, and hot water dispensers.

Read our previous post on the best way to clean and disinfect your water cooler which tells you how to do it in six easy steps. It’s also good to follow these steps if your cooler hasn’t been used for a while, such as over a Christmas or summer shutdown.

Six-monthly water dispenser clean

Every six months should the point where any water dispenser clean should be deep and thorough. The best way to do this with any Thirsty Work cooler is to have it carried out by one of our fully-qualified engineers as part of your comprehensive service package.

Your bottled water cooler will go through a high-standard process of general maintenance, deep cleaning, and full sanitisation to ensure it’s kept in full working order and safe to use. If you have a mains-fed cooler, you’ll have the same thorough process included, but with the addition of a water filter change so your water is kept filtered and as pure as possible at all times.
