How Long Should An Instant Hot Water Dispenser Last In Your Office Kitchen?

By Matt Stimpson |  Published

When you get on board with the idea of having a hot water dispenser in your office kitchen for your team, you know you’re onto a cost-effective, energy-efficient, and time-saving winner. But you also know it will come in for a lot of use every day. But with more use comes more wear and tear, surely? So, just how long should an instant hot water dispenser last in your office kitchen?

Quality made to last

If your staff are using a standard kettle to make their daily brews, you might have already noticed the extended time it takes to make those all-important office teas, coffees, and lunchtime snacks. To counter that, one of the best things about an installed hot water dispenser is the sheer speed at which you can get near-boiling water whenever it’s needed.

But because they always get a lot of daily use, hot water dispensers are durable, resilient, and more than up to the job of taking all the knocks, bangs, bumps, and extended use they get each and every day. And while each of our dispensers is assembled using 304 and 316 premium grade stainless steel, and come with a 100% warranty, it means they’re built to last. But how long is that?

There are plenty of reasons why you need a hot water dispenser, and because of the all-round quality of build, the units themselves can last for many, many years. But there are different factors that come into play which could mean your hot water dispenser may need some TLC every now and again. And one of the key considerations is the mains water in your area.

Filtered water for longer-lasting elements

Different areas of the UK have different water hardness levels depending on the scale of mineral deposits in ‘parts per million’ (ppm). Hard water areas will range from 100 to 200 ppm while soft water areas will range from 0 to 100 ppm. And it’s the hard water areas that can do the most damage to the internal parts of your hot water dispenser over the long term.

Hard water means a build-up of limescale around the heating elements and that means they need to work harder, gradually become less efficient over time. But the good news is that every Thirsty Work hot water dispenser comes fitted with (or fitted as an extra) an advanced filtration system that removes limescale and other mineral deposits, improving the health of your elements – and the taste of your water.

So, depending on usage, you should easily get up to two years, hassle-free, efficient, and money-saving use from your hot water dispenser, while we change the filter for you every 12 months. But even if hard water limescale does creep in and build up around the elements, Thirsty Work will replace your dispenser completely. So you can carry on having instant hot water while we tackle the descaling.
