Do Hot Water Dispensers Save Money?

By Matt Stimpson |  Published

If your team are big tea or coffee drinkers in the office, plenty of working hours across the year can go missing as they wait for that kettle to boil. But with a mains fed hot water dispenser in place, you can reclaim those hours, saving energy and money in the process, as well as having steaming hot water, literally, on tap.

Instant hot water

According to npower, one of the UK’s leading energy companies, and their FAQs, they say that “the average kettle holds 1.5 litres of water and uses about 0.1 kWh of electricity to boil for 3 minutes. That’s around 2p every time you boil a full kettle.”

That doesn’t sound like much, but if you have a team of 10 people and an average of 3 rounds every working day, it could cost you somewhere near £500 a year in electricity – and around 130 hours of time spent watching the kettle boil (which could equate to around £2k on an average hourly wage).

So what about a standard instant hot water dispenser as a replacement for the humble office kettle? Well, our most popular counter-top model, the 5-litre capacity 1000C hot water dispenser, can offer your team of 10 uninterrupted, 96º hot water on demand providing up to 28 litres of hot water per hour if needed – that’s around 100 mugs of tea without waiting for the kettle to boil.

With a larger capacity than a standard kettle, if you turn it on at the start of the day, after 15 minutes, you have near-boiling water that will allow you to make 10 cups of tea or coffee in under 5 minutes. But the best part is, the water will stay hot and when it’s in idle mode (using standby power only), it only uses 0.066 kW per hour which can be less than £1 a day.

Hot water dispenser benefits

Besides the obvious energy, money, and time savings you could be making, what are the other benefits of a hot water dispenser? Well, they’re efficient, giving you just the right amount of hot water for your cup or mug without boiling a full or even half full kettle, and without wasting electricity or water – great for the environment.

They’re also space-saving. With a choice of either 5 or 10-litre capacities, they take up very little work surface space. But even if kitchen space is at a premium, you could even opt for a wall-mounted model. And thanks to the advanced water filtration system built-in to every model, everyone benefits from great-tasting, pure, filtered water for every tea or coffee – or even your lunchtime cup-a-soup or pot noodle!

But, ultimately, a hot water dispenser is just far more convenient, giving everyone access to hot water whenever they need it with the added bonus of keeping it hot without any worries of over-boiling.
