What's The Best Water To Drink For Your Health?

We all know that drinking enough water each day is one of the healthiest things we can do for our bodies. After all, staying hydrated isn't just about quenching our thirst, it’s all about keeping a healthy mind and body too. But is all water the same? Apart from taste and hardness, which can be an issue in London and across the southeast, there are plenty of choices in the type of water we can drink. But it’s natural to wonder whether one option has more health benefits for you than another.

Healthy water options

All the UK’s national water companies carry out essential processing and treatment works to deliver our mains supplied tap water, so it’s among the safest to drink in the world. But there can be issues with the hardness of the water that affects its taste or whether you think it’s healthy for you or not. So let’s look at your drinking water alternatives.

Mineral water

Mineral water comes from underground sources without chemical processing. Thanks to its naturally high mineral content, including magnesium, calcium, and potassium, it’s often considered a good, healthy option.

Spring water

Again coming from natural underground aquifers, spring water has been filtered through multiple rock layers before coming out and is untreated by chemicals. Also considered to have good health benefits and is high in mineral content.

Purified water

Purified water originates from different sources, going through a mechanical filtering process to remove all impurities, minerals, and nutrients. Trace contaminants in purified water are measured in ‘parts per billion’ (ppb) or ‘parts per trillion’ (ppt), such is its purity. But, while purer water, its filtering process removes any health benefits other than its hydrating qualities.

Tap water

Standard tap water comprises natural groundwater – from underground aquifers – and surface water – from rivers, reservoirs, and lakes. While undergoing screening, treatment, filtration, and stringent testing, the water from your taps is as safe and fresh as it gets. And it still maintains many of the nutrients and minerals our bodies need.

A switch to spring water

Whichever type of water you choose to drink, it’s fair to say that each one is an equally healthy option for you. With the exception of purified water, the health benefits of each are all good too, with both mineral and spring water having the edge in terms of natural mineral and nutrient content.

For many, tap water is the cheapest and best option to stay hydrated and get a good dose of natural mineral content. But the high mineral, hard tap water of London and the southeast can affect its smell and taste. And that’s a key reason why people are switching to the purer taste of naturally-filtered, spring water from a bottled water cooler or a high-filtered mains fed water cooler.

Pure water taste from Thirsty Work

At home or work, a Thirsty Work water cooler can give you a healthier option with a purer taste, fewer impurities, and a high mineral content. Whether a bottled or mains fed cooler is your best option, either will give you a cost-effective, eco-friendly, and healthy way to drink your water – without any bad tastes or dubious aromas!
